Civil air transport has been a steadily growing sector. Its operation contributes about 2.4 % of the global CO² emissions.

For reaching this challenging target, all relevant technologies need to be addressed and innovative technologies need to be introduced. The civil aviation sectors in Europe and in China belong to the most intensive air transport areas of the World. Since more than 15 years a research cooperation in relevant technologies contributing to the greening of aviation took place between European and Chinese research institutions and aerospace industry. The joint research effort should contribute to more environment friendly aviation on a global scale.
